There is a growing trend with destination weddings in France (and elsewhere). Rather than have ‘the wedding’ followed by ‘the reception’ couples are looking for more… and The Candies are not the only ones to notice…
“Millennials are all about the experience,” says Wedding Wire trend expert Anne Chertoff. “They’re focusing on creating an aesthetic—through food, drinks, entertainment, whatever—that they as a couple love and that they want to share with their friends.”
A recent Independant article says “… many millennials are breaking with tradition, ripping up the rulebook and redefining what a wedding should look like”
Travel Weekly say “Millennials are changing the way destination weddings are done, turning them into epic, once-in-a-lifetime vacations for them and their friends, picking exotic locations, keeping it all cost-effective but still absurdly personalized. “Wedding couples are aiming to experience an authentic vacation with their closest family and friends, where they can spend an entire weekend together versus just a single night somewhere locally,” said Terrah van Meter, a travel consultant with Legacy Travel in Dallas.
Today’s happy couple had also thrown away the rule book. They had chosen the amazing Chateau de la Cote for their wedding but they had also planned a full programme of events and activities for their guests. The Candies had been booked to perform at their opening event… the Pre-Wedding Party!
The venue was La Guiguette in Brantome. A wonderful bistro style restaurant backing onto the River Dronne… this river encircles the entire medieval town of Brantome and has earned it the name Venice of the North.
It’s very hot in south west France so we were very happy to discover that we were allocated a spot in a shady corner beside the garden bar… where we could catch the cooling breeze coming from the river.
We had a fabulous evening! It was great to work with Laura at The French Wedding Company and it was a pleasure to work with Kimberley and Gareth and help them make their wedding so unique and amazing!
